Pretty Bubbles in the Air

Oh, yes they did. James, Wade, and Bosh will all be playing for the Miami Heat next season.

So, I haven’t blogged in a week. So what? I will start off by addressing what my entire last post was about. I am completely excited and in favor of LeBron James coming to South Beach to play for the Miami Heat. In the events that have transpired since then, I feel like LeBron has come out a lot better than people originally thought. He will team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, and over the past few days, they have re-signed Udonis Haslem and added Mike Miller and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Pat Riley has begun to fill in the blanks for the rest of the team, and has done a great job so far. Getting Big Z to come down to Miami with LeBron was a big win for them. First of all, because it kind’ve slaps Dan Gilbert in the face after making an ass out of himself over LeBron leaving, plus, it is great for the Heat. They get a player who is familiar with LeBron and brings a lot of talent and experience to the table. I think it is safe to say that I will watch more NBA this season than ever before.

The past week has been great for me. I got a call on Saturday from AMC Theaters, and set up an interview, which I did the next day. I am up for one of 4 jobs at the Main Street AMC location. The manager that interviewed me told me that 123 people applied and I was only one of 12 people that got an interview. I thought that the interview went very well. I wore my grey dress pants, white shirt and my Brooks Brothers tie — needless to say, I looked good. But, she mentioned that she was glad I dressed up because apparently one of the kids she interviewed earlier in the day wore shorts to the interview, and the guy that interviewed before me was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. So, I think I scored some major easy points there. She said that she would let me know Friday what she decided, so finger crossed!

My little brother visited this weekend, as well. I met him in Cameron and drove him the rest of the way down, and it was really nice having him here. I think he had a good time, and he has already told me that he’s coming back this weekend and will be here Friday (haha!). When he was here, we watched the final two World Cup games, he played a lot of COD and we just hung out. On Sunday, my aunt took us to go see Despicable Me, the new animated movie starring Steve Carell. I honestly have to say that I was a little disappointed in it. I know that it’s now the #1 movie in America, and it’s not like it wasn’t good, but I guess I was just expecting a little bit more. It was funny and it was cute, but it just lacked the punch that some of the other animated movies out there have. We did get to see it in 3D, which was pretty sweet. That was actually my first actual film that I saw in 3D. Everything I’ve ever seen in 3D before, I don’t really count, because it was an educational movie or a documentary at some Imax theater. I will say that I don’t really like the new trend of every movie coming out in 3D. Don’t get me wrong, I think it can be cool, but I don’t feel like I’m watching a movie and getting the full movie effect. Maybe that is why I didn’t like Despicable Me as much. Maybe some things are better just left alone.

Last week, during the week some time — I don’t remember which day — my aunt and I stayed up until 2:30 a.m. and watched 3 straight movies. I love watching movies, so I am always up for it, especially when they are new movies, but this definitely added to my aunt’s “cool aunt” factor. The first movie we watched was Gran Torino, starring Clint Eastwood. Kowalski, Clint Eastwood’s character in the movie, is probably one of my favorite movie characters of all-time. My aunt made a joke after the movie that we should watch it again and count and write down all of the racial slurs he uses in the movie. Kowalski is a disgruntled war vet who just lost his wife, and so he embodies the complete “grumpy old man” package. He lives in a very diverse neighborhood, and has several entertaining encounters with many different types of people and hilarious name calling from him always ensues. I did really enjoy the film though, and I would watch it again if the opportunity presented itself. It was smart, action-packed, funny and delivered a good message. Eastwood definitely did a great job with it.

The second movie we watched was easily the best of the night — The Bucket List. I absolutely loved it. I honestly have never been a huge Jack Nicholson fan, but I love Morgan Freeman, and they both do an outstanding job in the movie. If you don’t know, Edward, played by Nicholson, and Carter, Freeman, are two older men who share a room in the hospital that Edward owns. They are both diagnosed with serious illnesses and are given less than a year to live. Carter, faced with the bold truth of knowing he will die in less than a year, begins compiling a list of things he would have liked to have done before he dies — dubbed the Bucket List. It falls on the floor during the middle of the night and Edward finds it. After a brief confrontation, they both agree to expand on it. Edward, who is very wealthy, convinces Carter to try to fulfill the list with him and they begin a trip around the world to try to accomplish their goals. Seeing these two older men doing crazy things like skydiving and driving a car on a NASCAR track, as well as seeing the most beautiful sights the world has to offer, was very entertaining. Fun to watch, often funny, and even serious at times. The movie takes shape around both of their life-long problems they haven’t been able to solve. Carter has had troubles with his wife, questioning his love for her, and Edward has a daughter that has never really been in his life. A great coming of age, and at just the right time. I won’t give away the ending, but The Bucket List did become only the 3rd movie I’ve ever cried watching. It joins Click and Mighty Joe Young in this clearly very prestigious honor.

The last movie we watched was The Guardian. I had heard good things about it, and had actually been wanting to see it. It was the last movie we watched, and we started it at 12:45, so it’s the hardest to recall. I did enjoy it, though. I really like both Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher, and their relationship of hatred on the outside, but respect on the inside, really worked for them on screen and they were both great. Somebody like Kevin Costner was kind’ve weird to see as the Coast Guard’s all time best rescue swimmer seemed a little weird to me, but it worked. Ashton Kutcher is made for the hot shot, always trying to be a badass, kind of role, and he thrived. He is the kind of actor, that with his style of comedy, he can always make me laugh, and even with one of his more serious roles (not too serious, though), he was still entertaining in many ways. I would like to watch it again. It was 2:30 a.m. when we finished it, and I did feel like I was awake and into it for the most part, but I would like to see it again in a better setting. It was a sad ending too, but it didn’t manage to get the tears out quite like The Bucket List did.

Other than all of that, I have been relatively bored. I have started getting more and more into Royal Pains, and while I wait for each next episode to come out this season, I have been rewatching Season 1. It really is a great tv show, and I wish more people knew about it. I am trying to keep myself entertained all week while waiting to hear from AMC on Friday, and so hopefully I am successful in that and in getting the job too, so wish me luck! Take care and God bless, everybody.
